Last year it was Jason Derulo and Wiz Khalifa that took the stage in Goa for New Year celebrations. This year there are plenty of more high profile performers and Dj’s being lined up to bring in the New Year. All these star studded music events, further ensures that Goa stays firmly on everyone’s radar as the party capital of India. Just a few months ago we even had Sean Kingston fly in to perform. It just goes to show that it doesn’t have to be the Christmas week to let your hair down in Goa. So what if you’re not a party animal? Which are the alternative events you can attend during the busy tourist season in Goa.

  1. India Beach Fashion Week

If you’re a fashionista, then the India Beach Fashion Week is a must for you. Sprinkled with some of India’s leading fashion designers in attendance, this event which takes place in November is a truly glamorous affair. This year was the sixth edition and was ground breaking, because it was the first time the doors were open to the public. Online bookings were available through the Ticlet app, which also presented the RFID wristband technology to guests.

2. IFFI

The Indian Film Festival of India takes place at the end of November. It is actually one of Asia’s oldest film festivals having started way back in 1952. Goa has become its permanent home since 2004. It started off with the participation of 23 countries and now has over 65 countries represented through various genres of film. If you’re a film lover, it’s defiantly one to add to the bucket list as you can also rub shoulders with the stars of Bollywood.

3. GALF

The Goa Arts and Literature Festival has been organised annually in Goa since 2010. It’s organised by the Goa Writers Association along with the Directorate of Art and Culture. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not just for academics, but anyone interested in cultural expression. Attendees can get to witness art exhibitions, live performances and listen to guest speakers.

4. Serendipity Arts Festival

The Serendipity Arts Festival is a wonderful experience for art and culinary lovers. It’s curated by notable artists, performers and connoisseurs, who aim to make a positive change to the way these various disciplines are viewed in India. Over 90 vibrant projects are presented, which includes photography, art exhibitions and culinary workshops.

5. Difficult Dialogues

Difficult Dialogues kicked off in Goa in 2016, with the inaugural edition discussing India’s position in a globalised world. The philanthropist organiser’s partner with high ranking International institutions to deliver a fruitful debate that touches the lives of many involved within the NGO sector in India. The event aims to be a platform for various stakeholders to come together and discuss important subjects such as health and gender equality. The next installment, which is taking place at the end of January, is focusing on education and is yet another notable endeavour.
