Goa’s 1st Microbrewery and Tex Mex Restaurant, a Winning Combination
If you’re looking for something a little different to liven up your Goa trip, Habanero is a Tex Mex restaurant, in Baga that serves authentic Mexican American dishes. It is also home to Goa’s first microbrewery, so while you enjoy your favourite dishes you can also pair them nicely with a craft beer or maybe a margarita cocktail from the vibrant bar.
On entering the restaurant, you will feel like you have been flown to another continent, as the decor includes hacienda architecture, synonymous with South American countries. Small touches like the graffiti on the walls, picnic tables and the garden which is full of greenery, adds to the ambience. Sombrero hats are placed on every table, so that guests can wear them during the meals to further soak up the unique atmosphere of the Tex Mex restaurant. There is also a small air conditioned space upstairs, where guests can relax and unwind.
Susegado beer has just turned one in the beautiful state of Goa. The brewmaster, Aditya Challa is well travelled and has studied brewing and distilling in Scotland, which is evident in the brews he crafts. The Susegado Dorado is an Indian Pale Ale, created by fusing the British and American style, while Susegado Trigo is a Mango Wheat Beer. Susegado Seasonal is another craft beer, where the ingredients change each month to give a refreshing new taste for guests to try. All varieties pair well with the crunchy and flavourful Mexican food at Habanero.
The Habanero Goa menu includes everything we in India have come to love about Tex-Mex cuisine like nachos, quesadillas, fajitas, burritos and enchiladas. Habanero brings a sense of freshness to its food, right from all of the ingredients used in the sauces at Habanero, which are either sourced locally or imported. The lively bar features a bartender who is an expert arsonist, setting drinks on fire! Try one of the signature cocktails like the amaretto flavoured ‘Rock Lobster,’ the signature beer based margarita ‘Beeritas,’ or the ‘El Chingon Pomegranate Margarita’.
There is something for everyone, which includes a special children’s menu packed with burgers and bites. Another innovative concept is the ‘Build your own menu’, where guests are invited to create their favourite Mexican dishes, just the way they like to eat it. The fajitas are a particular fun favourite among guests, because it’s easy to share and a lot of different flavours can be added to it. The Holy Guacamole, corn chips, Taco Salad, Prawn Fajita, Quesadilla Triangles, Mexican Burger and Burrito Bowls are popular dishes. The desserts like the Tres Leches cake, Churros con Chocolat, fried iced cream, and Snickers Chimichanga with strawberry sauce which is eggless, are also big hits.
Live sports matches are also shown on the large flat screens, which creates a further buzz around the place. Valet parking is available for guests. Saturday nights are the busiest as live music is played. Throughout the year there are also spectacular events like the Cinco de Mayo celebrations, which is a big festival in Mexico held on the 5th of May. There’s also themed comedy nights organised regularly.
Habanero launched a selection of salsas and sauces into the retail and ecommerce market this year. The refill packs have recently found favour among leading starred hotels in Goa, as they add a different taste to the palette. The Habanero in Goa is a franchise which is run by the brother and sister duo, Rohan Ghotage and Pooja Ghotage. The other three Habanero restaurants are based in Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad.
